CEDAR CITY, Utah, Nov. 20 - Southern Utah's Cody Larsen
has been named this week's Great West Conference Defensive Player of the Week
for his efforts in the Thunderbirds' 27-24 win at Northern Arizona.
Larsen, a 6-foot-4, 289-pound defensive tackle from Draper,
Utah (Jordan HS), had three tackles, including a solo sack and a half-sack,
also recorded two quarterback hurries and blocked a field goal in the game.
The blocked field goal was instrumental in turning the game's
momentum toward the Thunderbirds, as it ended a drive as time expired first
half, denying the Lumberjacks a potential 20-10 lead going into the break.
One of his hurries and one of his tackles came on the same
first-half drive after an interception by NAU was returned to the SUU eight
yard line. Larsen almost single-handedly kept the Lumberjacks out of the end
zone and forced a short field goal which gave NAU a 17-3 advantage.
His half-sack came on third and 10 at the NAU 36, forcing a
punt in the fourth quarter and his solo sack came in the fourth quarter as well.
