SUU Gymnastics Hosts BYU & Food Fight on Friday Night

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Jan. 17 - Southern Utah University gymnastics will face Brigham Young University on Friday night in the first of three meetings between the two teams in 2012. The night will also feature a “Food Fight” with fans able to receive discounted admission for nonperishable food items.

“The most important thing we can do going into the meet on Friday is relax and have fun,” head coach Scott Bauman said. “It is really as simple as that. When we are relaxed we hit and that is what will make us the most successful.”

SUU owns a 6-1 record against the Cougars over the past seven meets, including a five-meet winning streak during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. The streak was snapped last year in Provo when the Thunderbirds finished behind Iowa State (194.925) and BYU (194.925) with a 194.275. Southern Utah avenged the loss later that season with a 195.475 to BYU's 194.250.

Fans can follow the meet online at www.suutbirds.com with live stats, a live video feed and real-time blog anticipated to be available.

Food Fight

Southern Utah University's annual “Food Fight” sponsored by State Farm agents Sherrie Hansen and Suzette Cardon will begin on Friday night and will carry over into the basketball games on January 21, 26 and 28. Fans are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items to be donated to the local care and share. Fans can redeem the food for vouchers that can be used for discounted admission prices up to five dollars.
