CEDAR CITY, Utah - Jan. 23 - Southern Utah's DeWayne Lewis has been
named the Summit League Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week
after his record-tying performance over the weekend. The award is
Lewis' first of the the year and the first for a Thunderbird during the
indoor track and field season.
Lewis sprinted to a first-place finish in the men's 60-meter dash on Saturday at the Snake River Invitational with a school record-tying time of 6.88. The senior from Denver, Colo. had already set the record last year at the Mid-Continent Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The individual victory at the Snake River Invitational was the only one for the Thunderbirds at the event.
Southern Utah will look to secure more first-place finishes when the team travels to Flagstaff, Arizona and the campus of Northern Arizona University for the Friday Night Challenge on Jan. 25.
