Nate Page finished eighth and
Matt McArthur 19th to lead Southern Utah's men's gof team to a sixth-place finish at the Cal State Northridge-hosted Bill Cullum Invitational Tuesday. The tournament was held at the par 72, 6,761-yard Woodranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.
Page fired a final round 68 to finish at 4-under par 212 and move up 12 spots while McArthur shot 69 Tuesday to move up from 31st and finish at 216. Arizona State's Tristan Bierenbroodspot shot 10-under 206 to claim the tournament title.
As a team the Thunderbirds shot 289 in the final round, five shots better than their first two rounds, to finish at 877, 24 shots off the pace of host Northridge, which took the team title at 853, two shots better than Loyola-Marymount. Long Beach State was third at 857, followed by Cal State San Bernardino (872), North Texas (875) and SUU. The Thunderbirds beat Utah State (882) by five strokes, while Portland was eighth at 884. Cal State Bakersfield (903) finished ninth, followed by Utah Valley (904) and Cal State San Marcos (927).
Denny Job finished third among Thunderbirds in 45th place at 226, while
Tai Reynolds was 52nd at 228 and
Jeff Evans was 61st at 233. Freshman
Kyle Hill, playing in his first full collegiate tournament, shot 235 to finish 64th as an independent, while
Chas Boorman shot 241 for a share of 75th place, also as an independent.
The tournament was the final competition of the fall season for the SUU men.
