ARROYO GRANDE, Calif., Nov. 4 ? Southern Utah's women's golf team wrapped up its fall golf season with a somewhat disappointing 18th-place finish at Cal Poly's Lamkin Grip Invitational Tuesday after shooting a final round 340 over the 5,969 yard, par 72 Cypress Ridge Golf Course.
Sophomore
Mandi Incorvaia led the way for SUU with a 19-over par 163, good for a share of 57th place, while
Morgan Kerber shot 168 to finish 78th.
“This was a very good field this week but I was a little disappointed we didn't finish a few spots higher,” SUU Coach
Richard Church said. “We've shown a lot of progress this fall though. When I put things in perspective, keeping in mind our team is made up of freshmen and sophomores, we're probably ahead of the curve for most second-year programs.”
SUU finished at 672, nine shots better than Idaho State but six shots behind Utah Valley and another four back of Cal State Bakersfield. San Jose State, the 25th-ranked women's program in the country, won the tournament with a score of 598.
Xavier's Mary Beth McKenna was the individual champion at 143, three shots better than San Jose State's Chritina Corpus ad UC Riverside's Jennifer Bermingham.
Rounding out the SUU entry, Candra Sumedhatip finished 85th at 170, with
Sadie Palmer 86th (171) and
Kacy Buckner 102nd (179). Two Thunderbirds,
Caral Martinson and
Mikayla Williamson, finished 87th and 99th, at 172 and 177, respectively.
