CEDAR CITY, Utah - Nov. 15 - Southern Utah women's basketball will take its first road trip of the season this week when the Thunderbirds travel to face the Pacific Tigers and the Weber State Wildcats.
The T-Birds will look to break the funk of only one road win over the last three years of the program when the team tips off in Stockton, Calif. on Tuesday night. Southern Utah captured a victory over Pacific when the two teams faced off in California in 2005-06. The Tigers hold the all-time advantage with a 3-1 mark over the Thunderbirds.
Southern Utah has not face Weber State since the 2000-01 season, but currently hold a four-game winning streak over the Wildcats, dating back to the 1997-98 season. The two teams are tied in the overall series as both sides have secured ten wins with the first game being played in 1975-76.
The Thunderbird will enter the games having dropped their first game of the season in a 61-43 loss to the UNLV Lady Rebels in the home opener. Southern Utah opened the game with a 9-0 run, but surrendered a 19-1 run in the second half and was unable to recover.
True freshman Chanel Thorley led the team with 12 points and eight rebounds. Another post for SUU, Challis Pascucci, turned in an all-around performance with seven points, seven rebounds, three steals, two blocks and one steal in 27 minutes of play.
Tip-off in California is planned for 7:00 p.m. with an earlier tip of Noon planned on Thursday afternoon in Ogden.
Scouting Pacific
Pacific will enter the game on Tuesday night with an 0-1 record after dropping its home opener 91-79 to Montana State.
Jennifer Fath led the Tigers in scoring during the night with 20 points and was among the leader in rebounds with six. Emma Head (12) and Erica McKenzie (10) also pitched in double figures in scoring.
Pacific shot well during the game, connecting on 48.2 percent from the floor, including a 33.3-percent clip from behind the 3-point arc. However, the defense proved to be too porous as the Bobcats shot 51.6 percent from the floor, including 47.8 percent from long range. The Tigers won the battle of the boards with 39 to MSU's 29, but lost committed more turnovers as the team turned the ball over on 24 occasions to the Bobcats' 15.
Lynne Roberts is in her fourth year as head coach of the Tigers, leading the team to an overall mark of 36-55 over that span.
Pacific holds the all-time series advantage with a 3-1 mark over the Thunderbirds.
Scouting Weber State
Weber State will enter the game on Thursday afternoon with a 1-1 record after splitting the first two games of the season against Dixie State and Boise State. The Wildcats posted a 68-61 win over the Red Storm in the home opener, but fell on the road to the Broncos by the score of 66-58.
Caitlin Anderson has led WSU in scoring during both games as the junior has recorded 17 and 12 points, respectively. Anderson also paced the Wildcats in rebounds in the victory over the Red Storm, pulling down a game-high 13.
Weber State has connected on 40 percent of its shots this year and is allowing the opposition to put up similar 40-percent shooting numbers.
Carla Taylor is in her 22nd year as head coach of the Wildcats, compiling an all-time mark of 293-301 in Ogden.
The two teams are tied in the overall series with the record deadlocked at 10-10.
