Southern Utah Women's Volleyball Signs Three

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Nov. 17 - Southern Utah women's volleyball head coach Debby Baker has announced the signings of three athletes that will join the team for the 2010 season.  The trio includes Alissa Youart (Honolulu, Hawaii/Iolani HS),  Kylie Schofield (Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork HS) and Hailey Moore (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield HS).

"I love that all three of these girls are very competitive," Baker said of the group.  "They are going to bring depth to our team and make the gym more competitive.  I really can't wait to get them in the gym this fall."

Youart is a three-year letter winner in volleyball at Iolani High School in Honolulu, Hawaii and has also lettered in water polo and paddling.  In 2009, Youart served as team captain, helping the Raiders to a first-place finish at the Kauai Challenge.  IHS also finished well at other tournament during her senior year, including third-place finishes at the Ann Kang and Hawaii Invitational.  She was twice named the Honolulu Advertiser Game Breaker Player after an 11-kill performance against Hawaii Baptist and 12-kill performance against Kamehameha.  The Raiders were Hawaii state runners-up during her sophomore season, but captured the ILH Championship that same year.

Youart played club with the Asics Rainbows, capturing an Aloha Region championship in 2007 and  first-place finish at the 2008 Aloha Region Qualifier (National Division).  She was also on the team as it finished in third place at the 2007 Far Western Qualifier, 11th place at the 2008 Pacific Northwest Qualifier, second place at the 2008 Aloha Region Regionals and fifth place at the 2008 Junior Olympics in Dallas, Texas.

"Alissa is a very good volleyball player and she is very versatile," Baker said.  "She can play either on the left or right and will give us depth in both positions.  She is very dedicated and brings a competitive attitude to the team.  I love that she is very knowledgeable about the game."

Schofield is a three-year varsity letter winner in volleyball at Spanish Fork High School, helping the team to a third-place finish at the 4A state tournament during her senior year.  Schofield was named to the all-tournament team during the run, also helping the Dons to an undefeated season in Region 8 en route to the region title.  She was a two-time all-state and all-region honoree with unanimous first-team honors as a senior and second-team all-region and honorable mention all-state accolades as a junior.

Schofield played club with the Utah Vipers under Coach Jenika Iongi, helping the team to a second-place finish in the Intermountain Region tournament.

"Kylie is going to bring size to our team," Baker said of Schofield's six foot two frame.  "She will help us out tremendously on the right size.  I love her enthusiasm and her dedication.  Kylie has not played club very long but I think that she will learn very quickly."

Moore earned several accolades while playing at Bakersfield High School, including first-team all-league honors as a junior and two-time all-tournament kudos.  Moore played club volleyball with Jamba, helping the team to a fifth-place finish at the 2009 Volleyball Festival (championship division).

"Hailey is a wonderful athlete," Baker said.  "I think that she will compete for time right away in the middle spot and will give us some depth in that position.  She is a great kid and comes from a very athletic family.  Don't let her size (5-9) fool you. This kid can jump!"
