The Thunderbirds started strong on bars, scoring a 48.775 led by Melissa Johnson and Elise Wheeler with a matching 9.800's.  Iowa held a small advantage following the first rotation after scoring a 48.850 on vault, but made the most of four routines over 9.800 on bars during the second rotation to extend the lead.

Johnson led Southern Utah on vault during the second rotation, scoring a 9.825 to finish second on the event.  However, three scores in the 9.700's wasn't able to match the output recorded by the Hawkeyes on bars.

SUU began to stage a comeback during the third rotation as a 9.900 by Wheeler on floor highlighted a strong performance for the T-Birds on floor.  Wheeler ultimately captured the individual title on the event and was followed by Shannon Coughlin (9.850) and Bailey Baker (9.825) as Southern Utah swept each spot on the awards podium.  The performances made up more than two-tenths in the team score as Iowa finished the third rotation with a team score of 48.700 to Southern Utah's 48.950.

However, a pair of falls on beam for SUU during the final rotation allowed Iowa to tie up the victory as the Hawkeyes finished one-two on beam, scoring a final 48.700 to the Thunderbirds' 47.975.

Iowa's Houry Gebeshian and Rebecca Simbhudas tied for the all-around title, scoring a 39.325 to snap Wheeler's consecutive all-around title streak at seven.  Wheeler finished the meet with a 38.600 in the all-around.

Southern Utah will be back in action on Friday night when the Thunderbirds travel to the University of Utah to participate in a quad-meet with the Utes, Penn State and Oregon State.  The meet at the Huntsman Center is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
