LAS VEGAS, Nev., March 19 – Oral Roberts won three singles matches and the doubles point Friday afternoon to take a 4-1 win over Southern Utah in women's tennis. The matches were played at Bally's Resort in Las Vegas.
Southern Utah's only point came in third singles where
Kirrily Burden came back for an 0-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over ORU's Tayler Pippin.
Kristin Gray gave the Golden Eagles the win, also with a come-from-behind win, as she overcame
Olga Tatarchenko, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 to clinch the victory. ORU had also won points in the fourth and fifth positions on the ladder. Ana Costa took a 6-2, 6-4, win over
Carmen Blanco at No. 4 while Ekaterina Kondrashova claimed a 6-2, 6-2 win over
Kristi Latteier at No. 5.
SUU was leading at first singles, where
Ksusha Nazarova led Lina Semenova 1-6, 7-6 (9), 3-2, when the match was decided, while ORU's Tori Dollar was up on
Mandie Divino, 6-2, 2-3.
The Golden Eagles won the doubles point when Semenova and Pippen got past Nazarova and Tatarchenko 8-2 and Kondrashova and Dollar beat Latteier and Divino by the same count. Burden and Blanco trailed Gray and Costa 6-5 when the point was decided.
SUU dipped to 3-6 and 0-2 in Summit League play while ORU improved to 3-0 in league play and 3-6 overall.
In other matches contested at the Summit League cluster Friday UMKC beat Western Illinois 4-0, South Dakota State shut out Centenary 7-0 and Western Illinois beat South Dakota State 4-1.
SUU concludes the weekend against Centenary and Western Illinois on Saturday.
