ELMHURST, Ill. (Aug. 30,
2010) - Southern Utah University women's soccer players Riley Bassett and
Charly Booth have been named Summit League Offensive Player and Co-Defensive
Player of the Week, respectively, the conference office announced Monday.
Bassett earns her first career weekly
accolade after producing a record-setting week for the Thunderbirds who posted
a 2-0 record last week. The junior midfielder scored a single-match school
record four goals in Wednesday's 8-0 victory over Embry-Riddle University,
becoming the first Thunderbird to record a hat trick and also set the school's
single-match record for points with eight. The Las Vegas, Nev. native closed
out the week with another goal that proved to be the match-winner in the 2-0
win over William Penn University Saturday. Bassett leads The Summit League in
points (10) and goals (5).
Booth also earns her first career weekly
honor after posting a pair of shutouts last week. The redshirt-sophomore posted
a career-high nine saves to post her first career shutout in the win over
Embry-Riddle and later stopped the only shot-on-goal she faced in the victory
over William Penn. This season, the Bountiful, Utah native owns a 0.67 GAA and
has made 15 saves, both good for second in conference. Booth also owns a 235:05
consecutive scoreless minute streak.
"This is great recognition for our squad.
Both Riley and Charly had solid performances in our opening home games last
week," head coach Brian Stock stated. "Charly provided good leadership and
stability in the back and made some key saves to preserve the shutouts. Riley
showed a lot of creative flare and gave a glimpse of how dangerous she can be
on the attack. We are proud of these two individually, as well as the effort of
the whole team in last week's matches."
Booth shares the Defensive weekly honor with
defender Abbey Stratton of North Dakota State University.
Southern Utah will have nearly two weeks off
before playing its next match, traveling to Orem, Utah to face University of
Northern Colorado in a neutral site match on the campus of Utah Valley
University September 10.
