CEDAR CITY, Utah - Jan. 17 - Sophomore Kayla Kovar earned her second career Athlete of the Week recognition after her performance at the Lumberjack Invitational at Northern Arizona.
Kovar's second-place shot put mark of 51-1 ranks first in the Summit League and 15th in the nation, setting a new record for Southern Utah. Her weight throw toss of 55-0.75 ranks both third in the conference and third in Southern Utah's record books.
South Dakota's Emily Grove also earned the award, making them each
Co-Athletes of the Week.
Kovar will join the rest of the team in competition on Jan. 27-28, when the Thunderbirds split up to compete at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. and the Mountain T Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz.
