CEDAR CITY, Utah, Nov. 14 - La Verne Lutheran
(California) High School's McKay Anderson has signed a National Letter of
Intent to play for Southern Utah University, SUU first-year head coach Nick
Robinson announced today.
"McKay brings versatility, athleticism and a winning
mentality to our program," Robinson said. "We are pleased with his decision to
join the Thunderbird family."
Anderson, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound
small forward is rated as a two-star prospect by ESPN and the number 71 small
forward in the nation. In the past two seasons he has helped the Trojans to a
51-13 overall record. During his junior season he averaged 9.9 points and 6.7
rebounds per game, including a 22-point performance against Lower Richland
(S.C.) when he buried five 3-pointers.
"I'm very excited to be a part of
Southern Utah basketball and be a part of the University," Anderson said.
"Going on my visit and meeting the guys and the coaches made me realize what a
good program it was. I liked everyone I met and am looking forward to being
there."
"McKay's a great kid without the
basketball component, but when you add in his basketball ability and basketball
IQ he's off the charts," La Verne Lutheran Coach Brandon Lee said. "He's a
left-handed player who can shoot from long range, can attack the basket and can
play above the rim. I think he's a great fit for Coach Robinson and the Big Sky
Conference."
