CHANDLER, Ariz., Feb. 12 - Southern Utah's women's gold
team shaved 16 strokes off its opening round score but the Thunderbirds
remained in fourth place at the 11-team Lumberjack at Ocotillo Tuesday.
After an opening-round 329 SUU shot 313 to sit a 642, two
shots back of Weber State and 11 behind host Northern Arizona but 31 shots off
the pace of leader McNeese State, which opened with a 300, then followed that
with a 311 on Tuesday for a two-round total 611.
Sadie Palmer led the way for SUU with a 74 on Tuesday which
allowed her to move into second place at 151, one shot off the pace of McNeese's
Kelsey Haynie, who was at 150 heading into Wednesday's final round. Monica Jung
was second among T-Birds in 14th place at 159 after a second-round
82, while Kaohi Loo was 31st (167), Nicole Thomas was 36th
(168) and Rynae Baca was 51st (176). SUU's Jamie Millard and Rose Pelletier, competing as
individuals, were in 36th and 45 places, with respective scores of
168 and 171.
SUU was four shots up on fifth-place British Columbia (646),
with Northern Colorado (649) sixth, followed by Montana State (656), Eastern
Washington (660), Utah Valley (664), North Dakota (715) and Idaho State (740).
The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Wednesday at the par
72, 6,302-yard Ocotillo Golf Resort.
