SEDONA, Ariz., March 3 - Senior Sadie Palmer and freshman Rynae Baca
finished tied for 12th place and Southern Utah had four players in
the top-21 to as the Thunderbirds finished third at Northern
Arizona's 21-team Red Rocks Invitational on Sunday.
The tournament was played at the par 72, 6,089-yard Oak
Creek Country Club.
SUU shot 308 after Saturday's 304 to slip one spot and
finish third at 612, three shots behind Cal State Northridge and seven off the
pace of tourney champ Toledo. SUU and Toledo were tied for second after both
teams shot 304 on Saturday, one shot behind Northridge, which opened with a
303, then shot 306 Sunday.
Palmer and Baca, who was competing as an individual and had her best finish at the collegiate level,
finished in a six-way tie for 12th at 7-over par 151 while Kaohi Loo
finished one shot behind them and in a tie for 18th at 152.
Monica Jung was another shot back in 21st, and Nicole Thomas turned in a
31st place finish at 156 with Rose Pelletier rounding out the
Thunderbirds' entry with an 80th place finish at 167. SUU's Jamie
Millard also competed as an individual, finishing 88th at 168.
Northridge's Clarise Guce moved up one spot to win the
tournament at 2-over par 146, one shot better than UC Riverside's Amelia Eck
and Weber State's Kelsey Chugg.
SUU finished six shots ahead of UV Riverside and Eastern
Michigan, which finished at 618, and the Thunderbirds were nine shots better
than the closest Big Sky opponent, host Northern Arizona, which finished
seventh at 621.
