PORTLAND, Ore. - The SUU women’s basketball team traveled to Portland Saturday afternoon to take on the Vikings of Portland State in a game that ended in a 81-74 loss for the Thunderbirds.
The Thunderbirds came out strong as they put up 17 points in the first quarter and 19 points in the second. They were 8-15 from the field in the second quarter and led the Vikings 36-33 at halftime.
Things took a turn for the worst in the third quarter as the Vikings opened up the second half with 17-4 run that gave them a 12 point lead with just over 13 minutes left to play.
The Thunderbirds fought back, putting up 21 points in the fourth quarter, but it wouldn’t be enough to regain the lead as they fell 81-74.
Sophomore Darri Frandsen led the Thunderbird attack once again as she put up 17 points and pulled in seven rebounds. Senior Jessica Richardson was right behind her with 16 points and seven rebounds of her own.
Redshirt sophomores Ashley Bolston and Sidney Rielly exploded on offense for the Vikings as they combined for 56 points and eight rebounds on the night.
The Lady T-Birds will be back in action Thursday January 19th at home against the reigning Big Sky champion Idaho Vandals.
