CHENEY, Wash. – The Southern Utah Thunderbirds concluded their two-game #BigSkyMBB road trip with a loss to the Eastern Washington Eagles.
“Hats off to Eastern Washington. They played a great game and shot the ball extremely well,” head coach Todd Simon said.
Randy Onwuasor led the Thunderbirds with 22 points on a 9 for 21 shooting. John Marshall and Jacob Calloway each added nine points. Will Joyce and Brayden Holker finished with two blocks each.
The Thunderbirds outscored the Eagles by 10 points in the second half, but a massive 47 first half EWU performance guided the Eagles to an 83-68 victory.
“I was proud of our fight the second half,” Simon said. “Winning the second half by 10 showed great character. Our four freshmen played well, and we showed strides in rebounding with 19 offensive boards.”
The Thunderbirds outrebounded the Eagles offensively, 19-9.
SUU basketball is back in action at home next weekend as they take on North Dakota on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 6:30 p.m. and Northern Colorado on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 4:00 p.m. in the Centrum Arena.
“Fortunately we finish the conference skate with 7 of 11 at home,” Simon said.
