Thunderbirds Fall in Tight Battle with Vikings

PORTLAND, Ore. – Despite tying it up with under two minutes to play, the Portland State Vikings pulled ahead of the Thunderbirds in the final minute to seal a 93-86 #BigSkyMBB victory.

Randy Onwuasor led all scorers with 30 points as James Mcgee added 20 points after pouring in six triples. John Marshall led the team in both assists and steals with five each.

The Thunderbirds took a quick 20-8 lead to begin the game before the Vikings fought back to tie the game at 26-26 with 8:30 to play in the first half. The game tied again at 28, 32, and 41 before PSU captured a 49-45 halftime lead.

McGee led all scorers in the first half with 17 points after shooting five of five from beyond the arch.

The Vikings led by six midway through the second half before the thunderbirds forced a two point game with 5:43 to play. The game tied at 80, 82, and 84 with two minutes to play before a four-point Viking rally placed PSU with an 88-84 advantage.

Onwuasor poured in a layup to pull within two of the Vikings with just :30 second to play before the Thunderbirds were forced to foul in the final seconds, handing PSU the 93-86 victory.

Rounding Out the Road Trip

The Thunderbirds will wrap up their final BSC road trip at Sacramento State on Saturday, Feb. 25. The game will tip off at 8 p.m.
