Women's Tennis Falls to Boise State and UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev.  -- The Southern Utah University women’s tennis team played a doubleheader in Las Vegas this weekend against Boise State and UNLV.

Match One: Boise State 6, Southern Utah 1

On Friday morning, the Thunderbirds began play against the Boise State Broncos. Senior Evgenia Marushko put up the Thunderbirds’ only point of the match in the No. 1 position over Broncos’ Hanna Kantenwein 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-6.

In the No. 5 position, sophomore Charity Sagiao played a tight match, but was unable to top Broncos’ Nancy Menjivar, falling 3-6, 6-1, 10-6.

The Broncos swept the doubles competition to secure the doubles point.

Match Two: UNLV 7, Southern Utah 0

The T-Birds played the UNLV Rebels on Saturday afternoon. The Rebels swept the doubles competition, securing the first point of the match.

The closest match for SUU came in the No. 5 position from Sagiao against Rebels’ Cristina Moroi 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3).

Up Next

The Thunderbirds play again on Thursday, March 30 at 1 p.m., and Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m. in Cedar City against Eastern Washington and Portland State respectively.
