OGDEN, Utah - The 2017 season came to a close for the Southern Utah softball team Friday morning as they were eliminated from the Big Sky Conference Championship Tournament by the Sacramento State Hornets.
The Hornets came out swinging and it never seemed to stop. They scored at least one run in every inning except for the second, including four in the first, five in the third, and five more in the fourth. They had 14 total hits in the game and scored 15 runs in their shutout of the Thunderbirds.
Southern Utah didn't fair well on either side of the ball in this one. Offensively, they were only able to pick up one hit in the game, a leadoff bloop double by Sarah Murphy in the fourth inning. They also used four different pitchers in just five innings of play. Junior Hanna Wynn was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs on six hits in two innings of work.
The Thunderbirds end their season with a 15-31 overall record and a 10-11 record in Big Sky play.
