Thunderbirds Picked a Narrow Second in WAC Preseason Poll

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Dec. 18 - Southern Utah women's gymnastics has been picked second in the Western Athletic Conference in the preseason coaches' poll as release by the conference offices today.  The Thunderbirds finished with 22 points, but garnered three of six first-place votes in the conference.

"I think the poll is great," head coach Scott Bauman said.  "There are a lot of people in our conference that know we return a great chunk of our competitive line-up this year.  However, all of the teams in the conference, top to bottom, are very, very good.

"I agree that Boise should be No. 1 in the poll because they are the defending champions," he continued.  "But, I think we'll have a very good shot at the championship."

Boise State picked up 23 points and the other three first-place votes to edge the Thunderbirds for the top spot.  San Jose State (16), Cal State Fullerton (10), Utah State (10) and Sacramento State (9) rounded out the poll.

Southern Utah will officially begin its season on the road at Fullerton on January 16.  However, fans will be able to catch a sneak peak of the T-Birds on January 9 in the annual RedWhite Intrasquad in the Harris Center.
