LOGAN, Utah - Southern Utah University gymnastics scored a season-high 48.925 on vault, its highest team score of the night, during the final rotation to take a 194.075 victory over Utah State (192.875) and Hamline (181.975) on Friday night.

SUU was behind 145.150 to USU's 145.700 going into the final rotation, but a pair of career-high vaults from sophomores Rochelle Bernier and Brittney Jensen propelled the T-Birds ahead of the Aggies, who suffered three falls on the floor exercise, scoring a 47.175. Southern Utah's foundation on vault came in a 9.700 from Caitlin Kennedy and then built from there with 9.750's from Jamie Armijo and Baylie Divino, a 9.825 from Jensen and a 9.900 from Bernier, the sixth-best mark in school history, giving the Canadian the individual title on the event.

The Thunderbirds opened the meet on bars, scoring a 48.425 with Armijo (9.750), Arlyn Amor (9.725) and Bernier (9.700) leading the way.

SUU looked to be on a roll in the second rotation as the T-Birds opened on the balance beam with four solid routines from Natalie Trjeo (9.800), Ana Jaworski (9.750), Kennedy (9.700) and Michaela Chernoch (9.700). However, the streak ended as Bernier (9.125) and Armijo (8.375) encountered falls in their routines with the Flippin' Birds scoring a 48.125 on the event.

Southern Utah finished the meet with only five gymnasts competing on floor and vault, but scored its highest marks of the night in a 48.600 and 48.925, respectively. Armijo and Trejo were tops on the team on floor with matching 9.750's, splitting the individual title, and were followed by identical 9.725's from Jensen and Kennedy. Jaworski's 9.650 rounded out the team score.

"I'm proud of how they fought back those last two rotations," head coach Scott Bauman said after the meet. "We were down from the get go and went with only five during those last two rotations. They handled the pressure beautifully and I really couldn't be more proud of them."

Kennedy finished the night with a career-high 38.750 in the all-around, finishing second to Utah State's Sarah Landes with a 39.125. Aggies also took titles on beam (Landes, 9.825) and bars (Kinzey Martinez, 9.825).

Southern Utah and Utah State will meet again next week as the two teams swapped venues and compete in the Centrum Arena in the Thunderbirds' season opener. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. with live video and live stats anticipated to be available online at www.suutbirds.com.
