CHANDLER, Ariz., April 21 – Sadie Palmer was tied for fifth and Southern Utah was in seventh place after the opening round of the Big Sky Women’s Golf Championship on Sunday.

Palmer shot one-over par 73 over the 6,299-yard, par 72 Ocotillo Golf Resort course, leaving her three shots off the pace of first-round leader Britney Yada of Portland State.

Kaohi Loo was second among Thunderbirds, in 23rd place at 77, with Nicole Thomas and Rynae Baca tied in 26th at 78 and Monica Jung 37th after a round of 82.

SUU shot 306 to sit 16 shots behind Portland State, which was the first-round leader after a round of 290.  Northern Arizona was in second place at 299, followed by Sacramento State (300), Eastern Washington and Weber State (301), Northern Colorado (304) and SUU. Montana and Montana State were tied for eighth place at 322, followed by North Dakota (330) and Idaho State (347).

The tournament continues with 18 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
