PROVO, Utah, April 26 – Southern Utah opened with a 289 to sit in fifth place after the first round Friday, then shot 297 in the second round to wind up tied with Wyoming in sixth at 10-over par 586 heading into Saturday’s final round at BYU’s PING Cougar Classic.
The tournament is being played at the par 72, 7,142-yard Riverside Country Club.
Jake Holt led the way for the Thunderbirds with two rounds of even par 72 to sit in 13th place at 144. Sammy Cole (73-74) and John Reid (72-75) were tied in 23rd at 147, while Tim Leonard (72-76) shot 148 for a share of 31st place and Taylor Schone (75-77) was 45th at 152.
BYU’s Zachary Blair was the leader after two rounds at 10-under par 134 (66-68), while teammate Joe Parkinson (70-65) and Air Force’s Kyle Westmoreland (69-66) were tied for second at 135.
BYU shot 279-276 on Friday to hold a 12-shot lead over second place Air Force, which was at 567 after rounds of 284 and 283. Saint Mary’s was third at 573, followed by Boise State (578), Colorado State (580), SUU and Wyoming, Utah State (591) and Weber State (593).
