Kennedy and Clore Named 2013 Scholar Athletes by Big Sky

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Caitlin Kennedy and Michael Clore have been named Southern Utah University's 2013 Scholar Athlete Award winners by the Big Sky Conference. The duo earned the award based upon their academic performance during the 2012-13 season.

Kennedy, a senior from the SUU gymnastics team, graduated with a perfect 4.0 in exercise science and used her final year of eligibility to pursue a graduate degree in health and human performance. She represented the Beverley Taylor Sorenson College of Education and Human Development as the college valedictorian during SUU's 2013 commencement. The Temple, Texas native appeared for Southern Utah in every meet on balance beam, on vault and bars in all but one meet, and on floor in all but two meets during the 2013 season.

Clore, a member of the Thunderbird football team, finished the 2012-13 academic year with a cumulative grade point average of 3.96 in political science. The Mesa, Ariz. native mostly appeared on special teams for SUU during the 2012 football season.

To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale), be a member of the graduating class and/or have completed their last year of intercollegiate athletic eligibility, have completed at least two years of intercollegiate competition at the institution, and be a letterwinner.
