Four T-Birds Named To NABC Honors Court

CEDAR CITY, Utah, July 17 – Four members of Southern Utah University’s 2012-13 men’s basketball team have been named to the NABC Honors Court, the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced today. Receiving the award were Jordan Johnson, Matt Gardner, Jaren Jeffery and Wade Collie.
Johnson, a senior guard from Delta, Utah (Delta HS) majoring in exercise science, appeared in all 31 games with 15 starts for the Thunderbirds last season. He averaged 3.6 points, 3.3 rebounds per game and led the squad with 32 steals. Gardner, a guard from Spanish Fork, Utah (Spanish Fork HS), was a junior economics major who appeared in three games and averaged 0.3 points per game.
Jeffery, who also hails from Delta, Utah (Delta HS) is a junior physical education major who started 29 games at forward. He averaged 3.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game and was second on the team in field goal percentage a 48.3 percent. Collie was a junior finance major from Las Vegas, Nev. (Silverado HS). He was dismissed from the squad late in the season but averaged 7.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 22 games with 13 starts.
"Each of these men did a fantastic job in the classroom this past year and I'm proud of their efforts," SUU Coach Nick Robinson noted.
To earn a spot on the team student-athletes must have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher at the end of the 2012-13 school year, must have attained junior or senior academic status and been a member of the varsity basketball squad, and must have been at their current institution for at least one full academic year.
