CEDAR CITY, Utah, July 18 – for the second time in as many days Southern Utah’s men’s basketball team has earned an academic distinction from the National Association of Basketball Coaches as the Thunderbirds received the Inaugural Team Academic Excellence Award.

The Thunderbirds compiled a cumulative 3.28 grade point average for the academic year, joining 95 other institutions from all levels of the NCAA and NAIA on the NABC’s list.

"We are proud of our student-athletes and their willingness to compete in the classroom,” SUU Coach Nick Robinson said. “In addition, we have an excellent support network of advisors and faculty at SUU."

In order to earn the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award a squad’s cumulative grade point average – including all student-athletes who competed during the season – must be 3.0 or higher.

Fellow Big Sky member Eastern Washington and the University of Utah also earned the award this season.
