Thunderbird Club Celebrates Sports Season with Two Great Events
By SUU Strategic Communication
CEDAR CITY, Utah, Aug. 8 - Southern Utah University's Thunderbird Club will be hosting two of its annual fall kickoff events in the upcoming weeks, the Prime on the Sidelines dinner and the Watermelon Bust.
The modified SUU tradition of "Prime on the Sidelines", was a tremendous success last year as fans got the rare opportunity to dine with athletes and coaches inside the Eccles Coliseum. The dinner features a delicious prime rib entree and is open to everyone with tickets available at the SUU ticket office located on the west side of the Centrum Arena or online at TBirdTickets.com. The Prime on the Sidelines serves as the Thunderbird Club's official kickoff function and those interested in joining the club can do so that night to receive all club benefits, such as priority seating opportunities at football and basketball games and the complimentary prime rib dinner. Tickets will also be on sale but will be available for purchase by cash or check only. The evening will feature entertainment provided by the popular local band Spilbeedog, which features SUU head football coach Ed Lamb on the bass guitar.
The Watermelon Bust is slated for Saturday, the 23rd from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will be held at football practice fields, the grassy area west of Eccles Coliseum. Student-athletes from all of the University's sports programs will be on hand to meet fans of all ages in attendance. The Watermelon Bust also serves as the kickoff for the Athletic Club's auxiliary organization, the ThunderKids Club. Parents of children ages 12 and under are encouraged to sign their kids up for the club to take advantage of ticketing deals and other benefits available only to club members. This includes an official club t-shirt and sports bag with the majority of the contributions being returned to the local elementary schools as a cash donation.
The Athletic Club will also begin its weekly no-host coaches luncheons on Monday, Aug. 25 at noon at the Cedar City Crystal Inn. In-season coaches and student-athletes attend each luncheon to talk about upcoming games and review past contests.
