TULSA, Okla., Oct. 1 – Southern Utah’s women’s golf team shot a final-round 313 to finish at 935 and in 12th place at Oral Roberts’ Bob Hurley Auto ORU Shootout.

Nicole Thomas led SUU with a 12th-place finish after shooting 76 on Tuesday to finish at 14-over par 227 while Monica Jung finished 25th at 232 after a final-round 79. Taylor Viquelia finished third among Thunderbirds in 35th place at 235, while Rynae Baca was 81st (241) and Shantell Spackman finished 88th (268).

Although the team finished 12th it was just one shot behind a three-way tie for ninth place and six out of sixth place where they began the day. Lamar ran away with the team title at 899 while host ORU was second at 913, followed by Arkansas State at 914.

Arkansas-Little Rock was fourth at 920, followed by Incarnate Word (925), Missouri State (929), Stephen F. Austin (930), Sam Houston (932), and Wichita State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist tied for ninth at 934, one stroke ahead of SUU.

SUU finished 10 shots up on 13th-place Northern Iowa (945), with Oklahoma City (951) followed by Northern Arizona (957), UTEP (959), and a pair of Texas community colleges, McLennan (961) and Western Texas (968).

Arkansas-Little Rock’s Sofie Kuarnstrom shot 3-over par 216 to win the tournament by six strokes over Corpus Christi’s Vanessa Johnson.
