CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University gymnastics has been picked third in the first-ever Mountain Rim Gymnastics Championship preseason coaches poll that was released on Wednesday. The Thunderbirds picked up 11 points, trailing Boise State (15 points, three first-place votes) and Denver (13 points, two first-place votes).

SUU looks strong in 2014, returning all but two gymnasts from last season. The team will also benefit in the return of redshirt senior Alyssa Click, a two-time WAC champion on the uneven bars and 2010 WAC Freshman of the Year, following a season-ending knee injury last season.

Click, the only senior on the roster, is joined by a junior class that includes Jamie Armijo, Rochelle Bernier, Ana Jaworski, Brittney Jensen and Carly Sigler. Armijo is the top returning all-arounder for SUU and Bernier finished first on the team in 2013 on vault and was second on bars. Jaworski has proven to be a mainstay in Southern Utah's lineups, appearing in every meet since her freshman year, and Jensen picked up first-team all-WAC honors on vault last season. Sigler appeared sparingly in 2013, but was a key contributor on floor at the NCAA regional meet, logging a career high on the event in Norman, Okla.

The Thunderbirds' sophomore class is anticipated to bring depth and experience as Arlyn Amor, Baylie Divino and Natalie Trejo each appeared in all of Southern Utah's meets last season.

The 2014 roster will also feature three redshirt freshmen and seven true freshmen with the newcomers each anticipated to break into various lineups throughout the season.

Brigham Young and Utah State rounded out the preseason coaches' poll with seven and four points, respectively.

Southern Utah will open the 2014 season with its annual Red/White Preview on Jan. 6 with the first regular season meet slated at the University of Utah on Jan. 11.
