Carli Moreland Named College Sports Madness Player of the Week

CEDAR CITY, Utah, Dec. 23 - Southern Utah senior Carli Moreland was named the Big Sky Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on Monday. The Broomfield, Colo. native averaged 19.5 points a game and 10.0 rebounds to lead Southern Utah to a pair of victories this past week. She also recorded her third double-double of the season as the Thunderbirds ran away from Arizona Christian with Moreland turning in 14 points and 11 rebounds in the first half alone.

She then came back to help the T-Birds capture a win in its Big Sky opener at Northern Colorado by scoring a career-high 25 points and set a new personal mark by going 11-12 at the foul line. Moreland had 17 second half points against the Bears, including a stretch of nine straight for SUU in the closing minutes. She shot over 52 percent from the field for the week and totaled three steals and four blocks. 

The senior center's scoring total moved her into the team lead with an average 11.9 ppg this season on 48.6 percent shooting. She also moved into fourth place among Big Sky rebounders with 8.5 rpg, and ranks in the top-ten in both blocks (1.1 bpg) and field goal percentage.
