CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University golfers Sammy Cole and Jacob Holt have been named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars after excelling on the course and in the classroom. To be eligible for the award individuals must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of the team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.2.
Cole, a senior from Aliso Viejo, Calif., led the Thunderbirds with a 72.0 stroke average last season and shot the lowest round of the year - a 66 at the Cowboy Classic. Cole also earned third-team academic All-American honors earlier this year and was named a Top Scholar after maintaining the highest GPA among student-athletes at SUU.
Holt, a graduated senior from Tooele, Utah, was second on the team in 2013-14 with a 73.0 stroke average and also recorded the second-lowest round during the year - a 67 at the Desert Shootout.
Cole and Holt were two of 207 Division I golfers that were recognized with the award.
