CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University women’s tennis will open its inaugural season in the Big Sky Conference this week when the Thunderbirds host Sacramento State and Portland State on Thursday and Friday. Both matches are scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
The T-Birds are the only team in the BSC that have yet to face a conference opponent this season and are currently 4-3 on the year with wins over Dixie State, UC Riverside, Dominican and Sonoma State.
Southern Utah has played a majority of its home contests, in recent years, in Las Vegas because of inclement weather. However, the forecast for Cedar City on Thursday and Friday calls for temperatures in the low 70’s and light winds.
Results for the matches can be found online at www.suutbirds.com.
About Sacramento State
Sacramento State will enter the match with an overall record of 2-7 with both wins coming in conference matches. The Hornets have played a challenging non-conference slate, facing five teams in the top 50.
Sacramento State was picked to finish first in the Big Sky Conference preseason coaches poll, having won the league each of the past 11 seasons.
About Portland State
Portland State will host North Dakota on Wednesday before facing Southern Utah in Cedar City on Friday morning. The Vikings are currently 6-7 on the year, including a 1-3 mark in Big Sky Conference play. PSU’s lone victory in conference came in a 5-2 win at Idaho State.
