SUU Women’s Tennis Faces First Conference Road Test

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University women’s tennis will take its first Big Sky Conference road trip this weekend, facing Northern Colorado on Saturday. The T-Birds will then play Seattle in Las Vegas, Nev. on Monday on their way back to Cedar City.

SUU split its most recent conference matches with a loss to Sacramento State (6-1) and a win over Portland State (5-2). Alex Ivanova went 3-1 over the two-match set with a pair of wins at No. 3 singles and a victory with Olya Kunz at No. 1 doubles against PSU.

Southern Utah is currently 5-4 on the year, including a 1-1 mark in Big Sky Conference play. The match in Greeley, Colo. is scheduled for Noon with the match at Bally’s in Las Vegas slated for 6:00 p.m.

About Northern Colorado

Northern Colorado will enter the match on Saturday with an overall record of 4-6 on the year with a 2-2 mark in conference play. The Bears’ Big Sky wins have come against Montana State (4-3) and Eastern Washington (4-3).

About Seattle

Seattle University will play four matches before facing the Thunderbirds at Bally’s in Las Vegas on Monday night. The Redhawks are currently 3-5 on the year, including a recent two-match losing streak. SU and SUU have faced a common opponent in Portland State with the Redhawks falling to the Vikings (4-3).

Notable Streaks

Alex Ivanova is currently riding a three-match winning streak at No. 3 singles and has won four of her last five matches.

Solid Middle Ground

Southern Utah has shifted its lineup at the top and bottom, but not in the middle where Alex Ivanova and Madeline Skaras have appeared in every match at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively.
