SUU Soccer to Host “Kick Around the Clock” Tournament

CEDAR CITY, Utah, June 11 – The Southern Utah University soccer program will hold a special 24 hour tournament for the community in conjunction with its match against UC-Riverside this season. The event will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20 with the T-Birds taking on the Highlanders in a home contest that will be followed immediately by the a seven-on-seven tournament set to run through the night and into the following day.

The special tournament setting will feature continuous games from the conclusion of the Southern Utah contest through the next 24 hours. Teams of seven members will play officiated matches consisting of two halves on a 70 x 45 yard field. Winners will eventually advance in a round-robin format to a playoff round and a concluding championship game.

All tournament participants will enjoy drinks and concessions, outdoor activities and receive an event t-shirt. Competitors will be invited to camp out on the field or are welcome to find local lodging.

Individuals interested in competing will need to assemble a team consisting of no more than ten members and submit a requested donation of $130.00 to the soccer program. This will be a co-ed tournament for soccer players age 18 and older. Teams will consist of six field players plus one goalkeeper and must be able to have at least two female competitors on the field at all times. Participants are guaranteed a minimum of four games. All proceeds will help to support the Thunderbird soccer team.
