CEDAR CITY, Utah, June 25 – Southern Utah University’s Colton Cook has been named to the 2013 College Football Performance Awards Watch List, the CFPA has announced.
Cook, a senior kicker from Bountiful, Utah (Viewmont HS), earned second-team Associated Press All-America and second-team all-Big Sky Conference honors last season after connecting on 19-of-22 field goal attempts and 30-of-33 extra points to lead the Thunderbirds in scoring with 87 points.
Coook finished the 2013 season ranked first in the Big Sky and second in the nation with 1.73 field goals per game. He was a perfect 14-of-14 on field goals inside 40 yards and 5-of-8 on attempts over 40 yards, including a career-long 49-yarder against Montana State. Cook also kicked off 61 times for 3,683 yards, an average of 60.4 yards per kickoff, and he finished the season with a net kickoff average of 46.8 yards per kick.
Cook gives the Thunderbirds four players on CPFA’s watch lists. He joins senior wide receiver Fatu Moala, sophomore defensive end James Cowser and sophomore linebacker Zak Browning as players to watch.
Two SUU players have earned year-end honors from the CFPA in the last three seasons: San Diego Chargers draft selection Brad Sorensen, who earned the 2012 CFPA Elite Quarterback Award, and Arizona Rattlers WR Tysson Poots, who took home the 2010 CFPA Elite Wide Receiver Award.
