CEDAR CITY, Utah, July 1 – Southern Utah’s Colton Cook and Gavin Farr have both earned pre-season all-America nods from the Sports Network, it was announced today.

Cook, a senior kicker from Bountiful, Utah (Viewmont HS) was named to the first team, while Farr, a senior offensive lineman from South Ogden, Utah (Bonneville HS), earned third-team honors.

Cook earned second-team Associated Press All-America and second-team all-Big Sky Conference honors last season after connecting on 19-of-22 field goal attempts and 30-of-33 extra points for a team-high 87 points. He finished the 2013 season ranked first in the Big Sky and second in the nation with 1.73 field goals per game. He was a perfect 14-of-14 on field goals inside 40 yards and 5-of-8 on attempts over 40 yards, including a career-long 49-yarder against Montana State. Cook also kicked off 61 times for 3,683 yards, an average of 60.4 yards per kickoff, and he finished the season with a net kickoff average of 46.8 yards per kick.

Farr is a three-time first-team all-conference selection at center and guard for the Thunderbirds. As a freshman he was named the Great West Conference’s Lineman of the Year, and he earned first-team all-GWC honors his sophomore season despite missing a handful of games with an injury. After playing center his first two seasons he made the move to guard last year and earned first-team all-Big Sky honors in the Thunderbirds’ first season in the conference.

Cook and Farr are two of 15 Big Sky representatives on the Sports Network squad.
