T-BIRDS AND UTES MEET ON THE PITCH THIS SUNDAY
The Thunderbirds (2-2-0) are set for another in-state rivalry matchup this weekend as they travel to Salt Lake City to take on the University of Utah (1-0-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m. SUU will look to avenge a 4-0 loss to the Utes from a year ago in what will be just the second all-time meeting between the two schools. Utah has pulled off three straight shutouts to start the season, but visits No. 7 BYU in Provo this week before returning home to host the Thunderbirds. Live stats for the match will be available at www.suutbirds.com.

ABOUT THE UTAH UTES
Utah (1-0-2) is yet to allow a goal this season after starting the year with a 2-0 victory at Western Kentucky before earning a pair scoreless  draws against Kentucky and Cal State Fullerton. Sophomore forward Baylee Nielsen notched both scores for the Utes while sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Luke has played over 300 scoreless minutes in net. Head Rich Manning holds a record of 128-80-23 in 12 seasons with the team.

THUNDERBIRDS EARN SPLIT AT COLORADO COLLEGE INVITE
Freshman Breanna Brown tallied her first career goal to put the Thunderbirds on the board against Vermont and Brianne Brown added two more scores to help Southern Utah to a 3-1 come-from-behind victory at the Colorado College Invitational on Friday. SUU then closed out the tournament with a 2-1 defeat to Appalachian State on Sunday. The Mountaineers pulled ahead 2-0 in the second half before freshman Aurora Moberly came up with her second goal of the season to cut the lead in half. The Thunderbird rally came up just short in the end, however, as the Apps were able to hold on for the win.

SUU SCORES 4-3 VICTORY IN HOME OPENER
Southern Utah claimed an exciting 4-3 win over visiting UC Santa Barbara (1-1-1) in its home opener Wednesday morning to earn its first victory of the season while dealing the Gauchos their first loss. Junior midfielder Kirsten Anthony blasted a shot into the back of the net for what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the closing minutes. Nancy Brich, Aurora Moberly and Logan Harker all added their first score of the season in the win.

PICKING UP THE PACE
The Thunderbirds have scored nine goals in their first four games. Last fall the ninth goal of the season didn’t come until the 12th match of the year, the same match in which the team recorded its second win. After four games last season the T-Birds had totaled 43 shots and allowed 85. This year SUU has taken 51 while giving up just 56.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Thunderbirds continue a three-game stretch against Pac-12 opponents with a trip to the Arizona Cats Classic next weekend. SUU will opens things up against tournament host Arizona on Friday, Sept. 13th at 8 p.m. (MT) before facing Arizona State on Sunday at 11 a.m. Live stats for the games will be available at www.suutbirds.com.
