SPRINGVILLE, Utah, Sept. 10 – Southern Utah’s women’s golf team shot 311 Tuesday to finish at 78 over par 930 and in seventh place at the 13-team Hobble Creek Invitational, hosted by Brigham Young and Utah Valley Universities.
Sophomore Nicole Thomas led the Thunderbirds with a 13th place finish at 14-over 227 while junior Monica Jung was 24th at 233 and sophomore Rynae Baca was another shot back in 26th. Freshman Taylor Viquelia shot 236 to finish tied for 31st while freshman Carly parsons finished 68 at 258. SUU junior Shantell Spackman, who was playing as an individual, finished 49th at 244.
BYU’s Lea Garner was the individual champion at 1-over par 214, five shots better than Grand Canyon’s Charlotte Jaengkit, who finished second at 219.
The Thunderbirds finished three shots behind Santa Clara and 15 50 shots off the pace of team champion San Francisco, which finished at 880, six shots better than second place Gonzaga. New Mexico State finished third at 912, followed by Grand Canyon (914), BYU (915), Santa Clara and SUU.
Weber State finished eighth at 939, followed by CS Northridge at 951, Utah Valley (959), Dixie State (960), CS Bakersfield (996) and Idaho State (1,011).
