T-BIRDS OPEN HOMESTAND AGAINST UC RIVERSIDE, UTEP
Southern Utah (2-3-0) opens a five-game homestand this week by hosting UC Riverside (3-4-1) on Friday at 1:00 p.m. followed by a matchup with UTEP (5-2-1) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Thunderbirds and Highlanders have met in each of the past two seasons with UCR taking a 2-0 win at home in 2011 and a 2-1 double overtime win in Cedar City last fall. SUU took a 2-0 loss to the Miners last fall in the first ever meeting between the two schools. Live stats will be available at www.suutbirds.com.

ABOUT THE UC RIVERSIDE HIGHLANDERS
The Highlanders 2-0 win over CSU Bakersifeld in their last outing saw sophomore midfielder Alexa Bustamente notch her first two goals of the season to move into a tie for the team lead with freshman Tatum Lockett. Head coach Nat Gonzalez is in his second season at UCR where he holds a mark of 10-14-4. The Thunderbirds are 0-7 all-time against the Highlanders.

ABOUT THE UTEP MINERS
UTEP picked up wins at Houston Baptist and Texas State last week and will make a stop at Northern Arizona this Friday before traveling to Cedar City. Senior forward Jade Babcock leads the team with three scores on the year while the Miner defense is holding opponents to just 0.71 goals a contest. Head coach Kevin Cross is in his 12th season in El Paso where he holds a career record of 154-85-13.

THUNDERBIRDS FALL TO ARIZONA STATE
Southern Utah wrapped up play at the Arizona Cats Classic with a 4-0 loss to Arizona State (5-2-0) on Sunday. Sundevil forward Cali Farquharson collected two goals in the match to bring her total to nine on the season. The Thunderbirds finished a stretch of three straight matchups with Pac-12 opponents with three consecutive losses. ASU outshot the T-Birds 20-6 in the contest, but corner kicks were even for both side at 2-2. Elyssa Hashimoto made seven saves in the match while freshman Katie Jones led SUU with two shots, both of which came on goal.

SUU TAKES 6-1 LOSS AT ARIZONA
Southern Utah took a 6-1 defeat to Arizona (4-1-3) in its opening match at the Arizona Cats Classic Friday night. The Thunderbirds fell behind 5-0 before getting a score from junior Kelsea Godfrey early in the second half. The Wildcats added a sixth goal from a fifth scorer a few minutes later to set the final margin at 6-1.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Thunderbirds open Big Sky Conference play at home next week by hosting Northern Arizona on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 1:00 p.m. Weber State and Idaho State will then visit SUU the following week.
