CEDAR CITY, Utah, Nov. 13 – Southern Utah University’s men’s basketball team has signed American Fork (Utah) High School’s Tyler Rawson to a national letter of intent, SUU head coach Nick Robinson announced today.

Rawson, a 6-foot-9, 215-pound forward averaged 9.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and two blocks per game for the Cavemen last year and he carries career averages of 7.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.7 blocks into his senior season.

"We are thrilled to welcome Tyler and his family to the Thunderbirds for the class of 2014,” Robinson said. “Tyler brings versatility to the forward position. He’s been well coached by Doug Meacham at American Fork and we look forward to his continued and future development."

Last year as a junior Rawson helped lead the Cavemen to a 17-9 record and an appearance in the Utah 5A semi-finals, leading the team in rebounds, assists, blocks and steals while ranking second in scoring.

He earned All-Valley and All-Region 4 honors as well as honorable mention All-State recognition last year as a junior when he ranked 10th in the state in rebounds and seventh in blocks.

Rawson is rated as a three-star recruit by ESPN and as a top-10 player in the state of Utah by MaxPreps.  ESPN ranks him as the fourth-best player in Utah and the 45th-best in the region as well as one of the top-75 power forwards in the nation.
