ST. GEORGE, Utah, Feb. 7 – Southern Utah (0-3) got on the scoreboard first but Nevada (2-0) rallied for a 4-2 win at the Red Desert Classic Friday afternoon. Both sides recorded eight hits in the contest, but a pair of Thunderbird errors and early scores the helped the Wolf Pack come out on top.

SUU put up a run in the top of the first as Freshman Jordan Theurer drove in Sarah Park. Park led off the game with a walk, reached second on an error and advanced to third as senior Kadi Henderson loaded the bases with a single to right. An infield hit for Theurer would bring in Park to make the count 1-0 in favor of the T-Birds.

Nevada tied things up in the second and then took a two-run lead in third. The Wolfpack filled the bases before back-to-back RBI singles for Jasmine Jenkins and Ashley Butera put their team in front 3-1.

Theurer drove in another run in the top of the fifth to cut the difference to 3-2. Sophomore Kylee Wolf started the inning with a single to right and advanced to second on a passed ball. Another base hit for Henderson moved her to third and a ground ball from Theurer brought the T-Birds back within one.

Nevada would get the run back in the bottom half of the inning when Sara Parsons dropped a two-out RBI single into left field to score Megan Sweet from second. The Thunderbirds had the tying run on first after Park led off the seventh with an infield single, but pitcher Karlyn Jones recorded three straight outs to save the 4-2 victory for the Wolfpack.

Four different Thunderbirds recorded a hit in the game, including Park who finished 3-3 at the plate with a walk. Katie Greenberg pitched all six innings in her first start for Southern Utah, allowing three earned runs and striking out two batters.

Megan Dortch picked up the win for Nevada after tossing five innings and giving up two unearned runs. Jenkins had three hits, an RBI and scored a run for UNR.
