CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University women’s tennis will continue its season this week when the team travels to California to face three teams in three days. The Thunderbirds are scheduled to face Dominican on Sunday, San Francisco on Monday and San Jose State on Tuesday.

The matches will put an end to a two-week break for the T-Birds as the team has not played a match since a 4-3 victory at UC Riverside on Feb. 23.

Southern Utah has faced Dominican each year, beginning in 1999, and has only dropped one match to the Penguins during that span. The Thunderbirds have an even longer run with San Jose State, facing the Spartans each year since the program’s inception in 1994.

Recaps for the matches will be available online at

Scouting Dominican

Dominican University will enter the match on Sunday with an overall record of 4-2. The Penguins are an NCAA Division II program, playing in the PacWest conference -- the same conference as Dixie State.

Southern Utah faced Dominican last season and took the match 9-0 after sweeping each of the matches.

Scouting San Francisco

The University of San Francisco will host Southern Utah on Monday afternoon after playing Youngstown State that morning. The Dons will also have matches against Nevada and BYU in Provo on March 7 and 8. USF is currently 7-3 on the year.

Southern Utah last played USF during the 2010 season where the Dons swept the match 7-0.

Scouting San Jose State

San Jose State will host Santa Clara on Saturday before welcoming the Thunderbirds to the courts on Tuesday morning. The match will be a doubleheader for the Spartans as the team will also host Youngstown State that afternoon. SJSU is currently 5-8 on the year with victories over Hawaii (5-2), Sacramento State (4-3), Cal Poly (4-3), Pacific (5-2) and UC Santa Barbara (4-3).

Southern Utah faced San Jose State last season and suffered a 7-0 sweep against the Spartans.
