ST. GEORGE, Utah, March 14 – Southern Utah’s Nicole Thomas and Taylor Viquelia finished tied for sixth and Southern Utah finished third at the inaugural SUU Invitational Golf Tournament, held at Sunbrook Golf Club.
Weber State (314-301) and Oral Roberts (305-310) finished tied for first and were declared co-champions after coming in at 39-over par 615 while SUU (308-309) shot 617 over the par 72, 6,013 yard course.
Thomas was third heading into the final round after an opening-round 74 but dipped to 78 Tuesday to finish at 152, seven shots off the pace of individual champ Marissa Borja of Eastern Washington, who was four shots clear of second-place Alheli Moreno of ORU at 1-over par 145. Viquelia shot 75 on Tuesday after an opening-round 77.
Rynae Baca finished third among Thunderbirds, in 14th place, after rounds of 79 and 77 left her at 156, while Monica Jung was 18th (79-79, 158) and Shantell Spackman finished 43rd (78-87, 165).
Grand Canyon (309-310) finished fourth in the team standings at 43-over 619, followed by South Dakota State (309-318) at 627, Eastern Washington (312-319) at 631, and Utah Valley (327-316) at 643. Creighton (323-321) finished eighth at 644, followed by Montana State (338-315, 653), Dixie State (324-341, 665), North Dakota (334-341, 675) and Idaho State (356-356, 712).
