BOISE, Idaho, March 15 – Southern Utah (5-16) split its two games at the SpringHill Suites invitational on Saturday. The Thunderbirds came from behind to knock off Lafayette (1-7) for an 8-5 win before being edged late by Boise State (14-11) by a final count of 4-3.
The Thunderbirds fell behind early against the Jaguars as Jenna Orlando hit a base-clearing double to put Lafayette in front 3-0 in the first inning. SUU came back by scoring seven straight runs however to go ahead by four.
Madison Resley brought in Kylee Wolf with a sacrifice fly for Southern Utah’s opening score and shortstop Kelli Hales evened the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the second. Sara Park would add a groundout RBI to give the T-Birds a 4-3 edge.
SUU extended the margin with three more scores in following frame after Terysa Dyer and Tanisha Anderson drove in a run and Hales picked up her third RBI with a drive down the left field line to set the count at 7-3.
The Jaguars narrowed the difference by scoring two in the top of the fourth, but Lyndsey Healey Southern Utah got a run back for Southern Utah with an RBI single up the middle to make it an 8-5 ball game.
That would prove to be the final margin as junior pitcher Katie Greenberg (1-3) tossed two perfect frames to finish with a line of five runs allowed on seven hits in six innings. She also walked two and struck out two before giving way to Ashley Ostler who closed out the seventh for the save.
Resley, Dyer and Hales all collected doubles in the contest and freshman Jordan Theurer tripled in a pinch-hitting appearance.

SUU rallied in its final turn at bat, scoring two runs for a 3-2 lead. Park drove in the first with an RBI triple and then reached home on a hit by Henderson. Boise State came back in the bottom half of the frame however, tying things up on a single from White and then clinching the 4-3 win after Britanny McCray was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
