CEDAR CITY, Utah, April 28 – Southern Utah University’s men’s basketball team has signed a Las Vegas prep, Clark High School’s Sherron Wilson, to a national letter of intent to play for the Thunderbirds, Coach Nick Robinson announced today.
“We are thrilled to welcome another high-character student-athlete to this recruiting class in Sherron Wilson,” Robinson said. "Sherron comes from a winning program under Coach Chad Beeten, and we look forward to the value he will add to our program both on and off the court."
Wilson, a 6-foot-6, 205-pound wing, averaged 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals per game last year in helping Coach Chad Beeten’s Chargers to a Nevada state championship at the Division 1A level.
“SUU started recruiting me last summer, then it picked up pretty heavy, so I went on my visit and liked it,” Wilson said. “Being from Colorado it felt kind of like home, and it felt like a right fit. I like the town, I liked the school and the other guys, it was just perfect and I can’t wait to play next year.”
Coach Beeten praised Wilson both on and off the court.
"Sherron Wilson is a very good and talented basketball player and more importantly a great kid with a good head on his shoulders,” Coach Beeten said. “He is motivated to be a great player and good student in the classroom. Southern Utah is getting a player who is just realizing how good he is capable of being, and the University and basketball program is getting a talented and multi-dimensional player that will help them win many games in the future. Sherron is a winner and coming off a senior season in which he helped lead his team to a state championship."
Wilson will join fellow spring signee Jeff Nibo, another wing who is coming to SUU from Chaffey College, as well as two Las Vegas preps who signed with the Thunderbirds last spring and got extensive experience with the Thunderbirds this past season, Trey Kennedy and Juwan Major.
