Kyle Magnusson Resigns as Softball Coach at Southern Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah, May 20 – Southern Utah head softball coach Kyle Magnusson has submitted his resignation, SUU Athletic Director Ken Beazer announced today.

Magnusson led the Thunderbirds to the postseason in each of his four years with the program, compiling an overall record of 95-124 along with a mark of 48-31 in conference games. SUU competed at the Summit League championships in 2011 and 2012, then reached the final round of the inaugural Big Sky Tournament in 2013 before bringing home the Big Sky Tournament Championship this spring. The T-Birds advanced to the NCAA Regional for the first time since 2007.

As coach at Southern Utah, Magnusson was responsible for the recruitment of the 2012 Summit League Player of the Year and Easton All-American Mikkel Griffin, as well as various other all-conference honorees.

Magnusson, who came to Cedar City after stops at the University of Utah, Salt Lake Community College and Hunter High School (West Valley), will fulfill the term of his current contract which ends in June of this year.

Southern Utah will begin the process of hiring its next head coach immediately.
