Jason Andersen is in his first season on the Thunderbird staff. Coach Andersen will serve as the SUU offensive line coach.
A graduate of Brigham Young University, Coach Andersen was a four-year letterman for the Cougars who went on to play professionally in both the National Football League and the Arena Football League. While At Brigham Young, Coach Andersen also lettered in track & field and was the recipient of numerous all-conference indoor and outdoor honors in the shot put, the discus and the hammer.
Coach Andersen played center for BYU and was named most vaulable lineman his senior season in 1997. A 1998 draft pick of the New England Patriots, Coach Andersen played two seasons with the Pats before moving on to play for the Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns. He also spent three seasons playing in the AFL, one each with the Arizona Rattlers, the San Jose Sabercats and the Utah Blaze.
Coach Andersen’s first coaching experience came as a part of an NFL internship when he coached at Paola (Kansas) High School. He spent one season as offensive line/special teams coach at Phoenix College, then spent a year at University of Rochester coaching the O-line and tight ends. From Rochester he moved on to Dixie State College, where he was defensive line and special teams coach last year before moving up I-15 last spring to join the staff at SUU.
As a coach, Andersen has coached one all-American and five all-conference players at the four-year level and at the JC level coached three players who went on to play Division I.
