CORVALLIS, Ore. - March 24 - Southern Utah started with true freshman Chase Rezac on the mound and finished with Brandon Romero in the eighth inning as a collection of six pitchers saw work in the Thunderbirds' 11-1 loss at Oregon State on Wednesday night.  The non-conference game gave experience to a staff that is continuing to build confidence, against a team not far removed from an NCAA championship.

Rezac began the game, throwing two innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks while recording four strikeouts.  The lead for the Beavers grew to 5-0 going into the top of the sixth inning as OSU faced Southern Utah hurlers Braden Yardley, James Crockett and KC Sandstrom over that stretch.  Yardley held Oregon State without a hit during the third inning while recording the three-up, three down frame with one strikeout.

Southern Utah put its run on the board in the top of the sixth inning as Marcus Romero hit a one-out single and later rounded the bases from first on an RBI double to right center off the bat of Bucky Aona.  The RBI moved Aona into first place all-time with 122 career RBI in T-Bird scarlet and white.

Oregon State answered in the bottom of the sixth with a five-run frame and added one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning to hand Southern Utah the 11-1 defeat.

B. Romero threw a flawless eighth inning as the final pitcher of the day for Southern Utah, striking out the side, joining Yardley in not allowing a run on the board during their watch on the hill.

SUU will now enjoy a day off before beginning a three-game set with Portland this weekend as the team continues its tour of Oregon.  The Thunderbirds and Pilots are scheduled to begin the series on Friday at 3:00 p.m. with games on Saturday and Sunday scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
