CEDAR CITY, Utah, Jan. 4 - Southern Utah's Dylan Fox has added another academic honor to his resume as College Sports Journal has named him to its 2012 FCS All-Academic team. He has already been named an academic all-star by the NCAA's FCS Athletic Directors Association and to the CoSIDA All-District VIII academic squad.
Fox, a senior center from Cedar City, Utah (Cedar High School), was one of five offensive linemen, and the only center, named to the 42-player College Sports Journal squad. He carries a cumulative 3.69 grade point average in Economics.
Fox started all 11 games at center for the Thunderbirds this year and the last 22 games dating back to last season, including the first 10 of 2011 at fullback before moving to center for the final contest of the campaign. This past season he allowed just one sack and graded out at 96 percent while making his block at the second level 90 percent of the time for the SUU offense, which averaged 285.4 passing and 85.8 rushing yards per game in 2012.
The team was selected by a panel of FCS experts that include the co-owners of College Sports Journal, David Coulson and Chuck Burton. Specific input from FCS football conferences, conference and national all-academic teams and nominations, and other academic sources were also used in selection.
