CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University men’s tennis will wrap up its inaugural season on Sunday when the Thunderbirds face North Dakota on the road. The matchup will pit first-year Big Sky opponents and first-year programs, marking the season finale for both schools.
The first year for the T-Birds has been a learning experience as the team is winless and have won only one match this season - a doubles contest at NAU. The 2013 squad is made entirely of walk-ons with only three of the six athletes having any post-high school experience.
Southern Utah and North Dakota will take to the courts at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. Results from the match are anticipated to be available online at www.suutbirds.com.
Scouting North Dakota
North Dakota will also be wrapping up its 2013 season on Sunday and currently have an overall record of 3-12 on the year, including a 1-8 mark in conference play. North Dakota’s lone Big Sky win came against Northern Arizona in a 4-3 victory. UND recorded wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles for the win.
UND is also a first-year program in the Big Sky Conference in 2013, both in conference affiliation and school sponsorship.
The men’s tennis team joined the Thunderbird family in 2013, becoming the newest sport on campus since the rebirth of the women’s volleyball program in 2009.
